Redundancy Free Mappings from relations toXMLMillist

چکیده
Given the fact that relational and object-relational databases are the most widely used technology for storing data and that XML is the standard format used in electronic data interchange, the process of converting relational data to XML documents is one that occurs frequently. The problem that we address in this paper is an important one related to this process. If we convert a relation to an XML document, under what circumstances is the XML document redundancy free? Drawing on some previous work by the authors that formally deened functional dependencies and redundancy in XML documents, we show that for a very general class of mappings from a relation to an XML document, the XML document is always redundancy free if and only if the relation is in Boyce-Codd normal form (BCNF).

متن کاملTowards ensuring Satisfiability of Merged Ontology
The last decade has seen researchers developing efficient algorithms for the mapping and merging of ontologies to meet the demands of interoperability between heterogeneous and distributed information systems. But, still state-of-the-art ontology mapping and merging systems is semi-automatic that reduces the burden of manual creation and maintenance of mappings, and need human intervention for ...
متن کاملMappings to Realcompactifications
In this paper, we introduce and study a mapping from the collection of all intermediate rings of $C(X)$ to the collection of all realcompactifications of $X$ contained in $beta X$. By establishing the relations between this mapping and its converse, we give a different approach to the main statements of De et. al. Using these, we provide different answers to the four basic questions...
متن کاملPSOM Network: Learning with Few Examples
Precise sensorimotor mappings between various motor, joint, sensor, and abstract physical spaces are the basis for many robotics tasks. Their cheap construction is a challenge for adaptive and learning methods. However, the practical application of many neural networks suffer from the need of large amounts of training data, which makes the learning phase a costly operation – sometimes beyond re...
متن کاملUnifying Temporal Data
To add time support to the relational model, both rst normal form (1NF) and non-1NF data models have been proposed. Each has associated advantages and disadvantages. For example , remaining within 1NF when time support is added may introduce data redundancy. On the other hand, well-established storage organization and query evaluation techniques require atomic attribute values, and are thus int...
